the Private Party of AL&ALICIA

my attempt to immerse myself in everything Singapore came to the final chapter (at least for now) with a sweet ending of discovering yet another emerging design talent from the Lion City. Alicia Ong, is the designer behind the stylish contemporary wear label Al&Alicia where classic masculine silhouettes received a new interpretation for the fairer sex. as the name Al (the guy) & Alicia (the girl) suggests, the androgynous theme runs through all of her collections.

a Parsons graduate, after stints at Marc by Marc Jacobs, J Crew, DKNY and Richard Chai, Ong returned home and discovered the void of well designed street wear made with quality fabrics in the local market and the idea of starting her own fashion label sprang to life and the rest is history.

there is always a "story" behind Ong's creation of every collection. I admire designers who build their designs from a solid concept; it somehow brings out what they have to say best in the final product. the 2011 line is named Private Party. it means to bring back the magical, alluring memories of party nights in New York, where party goers are dressed carefree and effortless, carry with them a sense of unpretentious cool.

classic wardrobe stables such as zipped ponchos, cigarette pants and cotton shirts are edited to give an edge, yet they all managed to remain highly wearable for everyday. fact is, Ong's designs have a lasting wearability over a transient fashion wear.

menswear silhouettes are the building block to the line but femininity can be seen stealthily in the details of the use of coral, pastel hues, or the choice of mesh, jersey and silk fabrics. and of course, huge to do with the wearer's attitude to reflect the flirty chic.

it could be by invitation only that one gets to go to the launch of Al&Alicia's Private Party. I enjoyed watching the show vid on youtube much. I was drawn into the party scene and momentarily imagined myself to be the cool kid, again.

Al&Alicia is available in 5 locations in Sing. shop online at their online shop. eDressMe New York carries them too.

check out their fb with more coverage of the brand's happenings. definitely one to watch!
